CURRICULUM VITAE

Meena Singhal is the Dean of Academic Services at Long Beach City College. The Office of Academic Services oversees a number of different areas including publication of the schedule and catalog, curriculum, Study Abroad, Honors, and Learning Communities.

Previously she taught courses in computer-assisted writing and academic reading in the Department of English as a Second Language at Long Beach City College and teaching methods courses including Theories and Methods of English Language Development for Elementary Students and First and Second Language Acquisition in the Department of Education at the University of California, Irvine. She has also taught all levels of ESL and English Composition at various colleges and universities in both Canada and the United States. Her research interests included second language reading and writing, reading and computer-enriched instruction, reading assessment, web-based reading instruction, curriculum development, and Generation 1.5 students. Recent books include Teaching Reading to Adult Second Learners and Landing a College Job: A Practical Guide for English, ESL, and Foreign Language Job Seekers .

Dr. Singhal is also the founding and current editor of The Reading Matrix: An International Online Journal and the International Chair of the International Online Conference on Second and Foreign Language Teaching and Research. She has also been recognized by Pi Lambda Theta (International Honor Society and Professional Association in Education) as a young scholar contributing to the field of second language education.

CURRENT PROJECTS - LITERACY AND TECHNOLOGY
Script-O! refers to computer scripts specifically designed to enable teachers to create online interactive lessons and tests. Teachers can create interactive reading exercises. Question types can include multiple-choice, matching, and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Script-O! allows teachers to customize the format of the final output so that student responses can be emailed to a student account, a teacher account, or both. An added feature allows instructors to include links to content information or online dictionaries which can be used by students to enhance text comprehension. Script-O! is currently being used by over 900 teachers.

Script-O! Professional - Script-O! Pro is a powerful program embracing the concept of creative control. It allows users to create customized web-based quizzes designed around their own course materials. Quizzes, exercises and activities are created in minutes and are available online to students. Script-O! Pro includes a quizmaker, interactive games, an academic vocabulary program, a survey maker, and an online calendar.
